Nomination Form: Why PDP Should Give Youths Waiver – Enugu Party Chieftain, Chinedu Eya

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Enugu State and Senatorial Aspirant, Chinedu Eya has restated his call on Nigeria’s main opposition party (PDP) to grant waiver to him, as well as other Nigerian Youths aspiring to contest elections under the party’s umbrella.

Eya believes that the PDP having extended such gesture to female aspirants, it should also apply to the youths in order to deepen the democratic process.

He spoke in reaction to the election guidelines released for the 2019 elections by the party, which marked the commencement of sale of Expression of Interests and Nominations Forms.

He said that “the PDP in keeping with its promise to enhance the inclusion of young persons in the democratic processes of the country, following the passage of Not-Too-Young-to-Run bill into law” was morally bound to remember his personal sacrifices for the party since joining the fold, years ago.

Eya highlighted his efforts for the main opposition party to include convening and coordinating “Why it must be PDP in 2019” (WIMBPDP2019), a pressure group with a wide membership across the 36 states of the federation, agitating for the return of the PDP in 2019.

He explained that his organisation, “why it must be PDP” has since its existence in 2015, carried out a lot of activities championing the party’s course, defending it from the ruling party’s tyranny and politics of vendetta, through aggressive press statements, repelling rallies, workshops and general sensitization.

“At the state level of our party, I am the statewide initiator of ‘No Vacancy in the Lion Building, Gburugburu till 2023’. This is a group at the state level of our party, agitating for the retention of the PDP and His Excellency the Governor and father of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi till 2023.”

He equally noted that if “all female aspirants are exempted from payment for purchase of nomination forms for all offices except national and ad-hoc delegate categories, as approved by the National Working Committee of the Party, same gesture should be extended to Nigerian Youths to make its promise of supporting them to actualize their potential real.”

“This is the second time I am making this appeal – I wrote a personal letter to Prince Secondus, our Party Chairman last month, bringing this case to his notice. Morality demands that the PDP grant waiver to me and other youths for inclusiveness; courtesy demands that they give Youths soft-landing following the passage of not too young to run bill into law,” he noted.

The PDP pegged the expression of interest and nomination form for Senate at N3.5m.
