The political future of Zimbabwe remains unsettled after a military action that appears to have put an end to Robert Mugabe’s 37-year grip on power.

But the Zimbabwean leader appears to be resisting efforts to force him to stand aside, despite having served as president since 1987.

The 93-year-old has been synonymous with dictatorship in Africa and the world, and for so long nobody could persuade him to relinquish power.

Mugabe’s reign as Zimbabwe president was challenged after troops of the Zimbabwe Defense Council (ZDC) held him captive inside his own home.

The military has indicated that the act is not a coup d’etat, however, Mugabe has been placed on house arrest, with a decision yet to be taken on what next.

However, despite his reign almost coming to an end, the dictator has a wide range of investments in his country, including putting up a plush mansion situated in Harare.

The mansion is simply luxurious and boasts of a variety of state of the arts facilities.

Meanwhile, Embattled President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe has met with the country’s army chief, Gen Constantino Chiwenga, with a Catholic cleric Father Fidelis Mukonori and South African envoys.

BBC reports that Zimbabwe’s state-run, Herald newspaper published photos of President Robert Mugabe’s meeting with army chief Gen Constantino Chiwenga, Catholic cleric Father Fidelis Mukonori and South African envoys.

NAIJ reported that according to Reuters, an intelligence source disclosed that despite mediation by a Catholic priest to enable his graceful exit, President Robert Mugabe is allegedly insisting that he remains Zimbabwe’s only legitimate ruler.
